1517 Mitchell Avenue is deeply rooted in Chattanooga’s history. From its opening in 1929 as the YMCA to its present-day life as Common House, these walls have held the shared stories and memories of generations of Chattanoogans.

We invite you to stop by and help us preserve the history of this special place by sharing your stories. Whether your memories come from the building’s early days as the YMCA or from its new chapter as Common House, your experiences are an important part of its legacy.

This is a casual, drop-in gathering to reconnect with former YMCA members, meet current Common House members, and spend time with our staff. Guests are encouraged to bring along old photos to share and reminisce together.

Ringg Chatt will be on site offering a unique way to capture and record your memories in your own voice, ensuring the stories of 1517 Mitchell Avenue live on for generations to come.

Tours of the building will be available throughout the event, and our restaurant will be open to the public for drinks and dinner.

Join us in the Pennybacker Room—we’d love to welcome you back.
